Pace University Dean and 9/11 Victim Lynne V. Byrne’s Legacy Lives On Through Scholarship Donation

Hansen & Rosasco, LLP, the 9/11 Victim Law Firm, is honored to share the remarkable story of Lynne V. Byrne, a lifelong educator, leader, and inspiration whose legacy will continue to make an impact for generations to come. Through the dedication of her family and the efforts of our law firm, Lynne’s life and contributions are being celebrated with the establishment of an Endowment Fund at Pace University’s Lubin School of Business. This initiative not only honors her life and her students but also brings attention to the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) and its potential to support others affected by the events of that tragic day.
Lynne’s Life and Legacy
Lynne V. Byrne, lovingly known as “Dean Byrne,” devoted over 40 years of her life to Pace University’s Lubin School of Business. As Associate Dean, she was a tireless advocate for her students and colleagues, often working long hours, including weekends, to ensure the success of the outstanding academic institution she cherished. Lynne never married or had children; instead, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her students, whom she considered her family.
On September 11, 2001, Lynne’s world, like so many others, was forever changed. She left the buildings at Pace NYC, located just 2 block from Ground Zero, and walked home to her Murray Hill apartment on the upper east side amidst the chaos. Just two weeks after that fateful day, she was back at Pace, located at One Pace Plaza in lower Manhattan, welcoming back all the students with open arms. The ventilation units at the school were still caked with soot and debris from that day and served as a stark reminder of the tragedy. Despite these challenges, Lynne continued her work, embodying resilience and professionalism.
Almost 18 years later, in July 2019, Lynne was diagnosed with Malignant Neoplasm of Lung, otherwise known as Lung Cancer. Having never smoked a day in her life, she and her family suspected her illness was linked to her exposure to toxins in the aftermath of 9/11. Tragically, Lynne passed away just 4 months later, on October 28, 2019, at the age of 71.
A Scholarship in Her Name
Lynne’s family members approached Hansen & Rosasco to file a claim with the 9/11 VCF, determined to honor their sister’s legacy in a meaningful way. The claim resulted in a significant financial award which in part is being used to establish The Lynne V. Byrne Fund at Pace University. The endowment will provide annual scholarships to students entering the Lubin School of Business, ensuring Lynne’s passion for education continues to make a difference.
“To assist a deserving student in getting a college education - out of the tragedy that my sister endured – this endowment will live on at an institution and among the students she so passionately loved,” said her brother Tom. “This is the foundation, the heart, and the lasting impact of her legacy.”
The Importance of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund
Hansen & Rosasco has proudly assisted countless families like the Byrne family in obtaining the compensation they deserve through the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. Many individuals, including first responders, office workers, and educators like Lynne, were exposed to harmful toxins in the aftermath of 9/11 and are now suffering from illnesses such as cancer. The program offers financial relief to those affected, as well as reimbursement for funeral expenses, helping families find solace and honor their loved ones.
