Timeline and Process for Filing VCF Claims with Our 9/11 Lawyers
On average, the timeline to process your VCF claim is two years from the date your VCF claim is “fully submitted” to the date you receive your award payout. We will process your claim as soon as possible so that you and/or your family receive your award as soon as possible.
The 9/11 Fund will also “expedite” a claim and make a decision and issue an award payment in two-to-three months for cases that involve: “…terminal illness, or where significant, imminent financial hardship, such as foreclosure or homelessness, exists and is documented.” Expedited claim status must be officially requested by the claimant or their attorney and is considered on a case-by-case basis. Learn more about the expedited claim process here.
When you begin the filing process, be mindful of 9/11 Fund deadlines. Our team will inform you of the various claim procedures throughout the process, including the documents you will need as proof that you were present in the NYC “Exposure Zone” between September 11, 2001 and May 30, 2002.
Timelines for the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP) are shorter. The WTCHP was created to provide medical care and treatment to 9/11 victims, including first responders, cleanup and recovery workers, and other individuals in the Downtown Manhattan area on September 11, 2001 and in the months following the attacks.
After joining the Turley Hansen & Rosasco, LLP team, you will be contacted by the WTC Health Program within two or three months. After completing required application forms, which include a health questionnaire and medical record release forms, you will have an appointment scheduled with a WTC Health Program doctor, who will give you a physical exam about two months later. Your records are then reviewed by the WTC Health Program Administrator and a decision is made on whether or not to “certify” your particular condition as eligible for free lifetime treatment by the participating providers of the WTC Health Program. This entire process takes approximately six months to complete. Cancer treatment centers and other medical providers are located across New York and the country.
Now that President Trump has officially approved the expansion of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, now renamed the “Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11 Victim Compensation Act,” we want to help every 9/11 responder and survivor prepare for the process of filing their claims.
The process of filing a 9/11 claim with the Victim Compensation Fund can be an exhausting process for individuals and families who are still recovering from the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
