Special Master Rupa Bhattacharyya Farewell
Special Master Rupa Bhattacharyya Farewell – Dan Hansen and Troy Rosasco met with 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund Special Master Rupa Bhattacharyya on a conference call last week as she graciously said goodbye to the 9/11 attorneys she has worked with for almost last six years. Ms. Bhattacharyya shared the following thoughts about the 9/11 lawyers she has worked with:
“As my final act as Special Master, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the many advocates and champions for the 9/11 community who have done their best to ensure that fair and adequate compensation will continue to flow to those who need it. Through all of the changes of the last six years, the lawyers (and their incomparable staff) who represent VCF claimants have stood behind the VCF and offered support, suggestions, and guidance. Your input has made the VCF better, and I will always be grateful for your insight, your compassion for your clients, and your dedication to holding the VCF to its promise to be fair to claimants, faithful to the statute, and accountable to the taxpayers.”
Thank you, Rupa, for your dedicated work on behalf of 9/11 first responders and survivors. Also, thanks for thanking our “incomparable staff”! None of our law firms could have done the challenging work for 9/11 victims without them.
Rupa also introduced us to the new 9/11 Interim Special Master August “Auggie” Flentje:
“I also leave with great confidence in the appointment of August Flentje as the Special Master for an interim period while the search for a permanent Special Master is conducted. Auggie is an extremely well-respected and seasoned attorney who has been in the Civil Division [of the Department of Justice] for decades, he and I have worked together for years, and I have every confidence in his ability to fill this role – and to ensure that claim decisions and awards continue to be made without delay – while that search is conducted.”
Mr. Flentje impressed Dan Hansen and Troy Rosasco with his sincere commitment to helping 9/11 victims and families navigate the VCF. We welcome him to the 9/11 community.
